VIDEO: 70th Annual Tony Awards Preview

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)--  The Tony nominees for musical revival offer a fresh look at classics and more recent Broadway productions.

A re-imagined revival of "The Color Purple" has four Tony nominations including lead actress Cynthia Erivo in her Broadway debut as Celie, CBS2's Jill Nicolini reported.

"It feels like what's been happening with me and those is the stuff of dreams," she said.

Another pleasant surprise for the British performer is the standing ovation she gets before the show is even over.

"The Color Purple's" Danielle Brooks made her Broadway debut as Sofia.

"I would have never imaged in a million years or ten years from when I first saw my first Broadway show 'The Color Purple' that I would be starring in 'The Color Purple,'" she said.

Danny Burstein and the cast of "Fiddler on the Roof" give theater-goers a new look at a beloved classic. The musical has three nominations including Burstein as lead actor.

"It feels great. It feels wonderful. This is the hardest role I've ever had," he said.
