PBA Releases Another Ad Targeting Mayor De Blasio
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The New York City Patrolmen's Benevolent Association has rolled out a new ad against Mayor Bill de Blasio, accusing him of failing to support fair pay for police officers in the city's ongoing contract talks.
The ad is part of a seven-figure campaign by the PBA that launched earlier this month and is running on both broadcast and cable channels. It features families of New York City police officers that the ad claims "struggle to make the rent, pay their bills, and keep their heads above water."
The PBA claims NYPD officers make 34 percent less than other police officers, both locally and nationally.
"As you look at the the faces of the families of police officers, you can see just how much they are impacted by the lack of pay and support from this administration," PBA president Patrick Lynch said. "The mayor talks about protecting the families of working New Yorkers, but when it comes to the wives, husbands, children, and partners of our police officers, he turns a blind eye. He needs to step up and bring an end to the injustice that is happening in his own police department, so that the women and men who protect our city can do the same for their own families."
In response, a spokesman for the mayor said, "Our door has always been – and continues to be – open to the PBA to negotiate a long-term contract, as we've done with nearly the entire city workforce to date."
The PBA has been without a long-term contract with the city since 2010. It says it is fighting for fair pay and improved disability benefits for NYPD officers.
