Mets' Juan Lagares Has Partially Torn Ligament In Thumb, But Won't Go On DL

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The New York Mets announced Monday that outfielder Juan Lagares has a partially torn ligament in his thumb.

However, Lagares will not be placed on the disabled list.

Lagares is heading to Pittsburgh where the Mets open a series against the Pirates.

MLB.com reported the Mets will wait a couple of days to see if the swelling will subside in Lagares' thumb before determining if he can play through the injury or will need more rest or even surgery.

Lagares was injured Saturday while making a diving catch in a game against the Miami Marlins.
