Air Bags Stolen From Multiple Cars In Yonkers

YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Some Yonkers residents say they woke up to find their cars broken into and their airbags stolen.

Yonkers police say multiple cars on Bronx River Road had their air bags ripped out between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, with most of the thefts happening between 2 and 5 a.m.

Jarrod Robinson told CBS2's Scott Rapoport they hit his girlfriend's car.

"I came out Wednesday morning to go to the ATM and I seen that the door was unlocked and I seen that the air bag was missing," he said.

Robinson said at least six to seven cars were ripped off, the locks busted and air bags boosted.

The brazen bandits even went for a car with a police patch clearly present in the windshield.

"I don't know what they're worth," Robinson said of the air bags. "I know it's about $1,900 worth of damage."

People in the area whom CBS2 spoke with were taken aback by what they saw.

Janet Rager said her friend's car was targeted.

"I was surprised because I didn't know that happened, that they could just go in and take an air bag like that," she said.

According to some residents, all the cars that were hit were Hondas. Police have yet to confirm that, but they say they are giving the case special attention.
