Mets GM: David Wright Considering Neck Surgery
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- David Wright, Mets doctors and another doctor are mulling the possibility of surgery on the team captain's ailing neck, general manager Sandy Alderson said Tuesday.
The third baseman was placed on the disabled list June 3 with a herniated disc in his neck and was expected to miss at least six to eight weeks. He is currently in Los Angeles consulting a spinal physician about whether to undergo surgery or continue rehab, the New York Daily News reported. A decision is expected in the coming days.
Alderson said the surgery Wright is considering would require three to five months of recovery, meaning it could potentially be season-ending, SNY reported. MLB.com's Anthony DiComo, however, reported that Wright is likely to stick with rehabbing the injury, which is not related to the spinal stenosis he was diagnosed with last season.
This season, Wright, 33, is batting .226 with seven home runs and 14 RBIs.
