Who Is Javier Munoz? 5 Facts About Lin-Manuel Miranda's 'Hamilton' Replacement

New York (CBSNewYork) -- Actor Javier Munoz is going to be replacing Lin-Manuel Miranda in the title role of Alexander Hamilton when Miranda leaves the Tony-award winning musical July 9.

You may have already known that Munoz is Miranda's understudy. Here are five facts about Munoz you may not have known:

1: Javier Munoz, 40, grew up In East New York, Brooklyn.

2: Munoz was also Lin-Manuel Miranda's understudy in Miranda's 2008 Tony-winning play In The Heights. He took over as the lead in the role of Usnavi when Miranda left in February 2009.

3: Munoz was diagnosed with cancer in October, 2015 and briefly left Hamilton to undergo surgery and radiation treatments. He returned on January 17.

4: Both of his parents are cancer survivors. They celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in February by watching Munoz perform in Hamilton.

5:  Munoz was dubbed "the sexy Hamilton" by New York Times theater critic Ben Brantley.
