CBS2 Exclusive: Woman, 80, Recalls Being Robbed At Gunpoint, Pushed Down In Brooklyn Apartment

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An elderly woman was speaking out Friday night, a day after she was robbed at gunpoint inside her Brooklyn home.

CBS2's Brian Conybeare spoke to the woman exclusively, while the masked robbers remained on the loose.

"They push me down and they says, 'Don't move, don't move!'" said Maria Lugo, 80.

Lugo was describing a terrifying armed robbery inside her sixth-floor apartment at the Sumner Houses on Park Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn Thursday evening.

"I know it's a gun pointing to me," she said.

Around 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Lugo took the family dog Sammy out for a walk. But when she came out of the elevator, the gunman, wearing a ski mask, followed Lugo to her door and pushed her inside, bringing two other men with him.

"They say: 'Where's the money? Where's the money? Where's the money?"

Lugo and her daughter think the suspects live nearby, possibly in the same building, and probably saw them come home Wednesday night with a new flat screen TV. They stole that, a video game console and more than $300 in cash.

Police sources confirmed the family's story, and the NYPD is searching for the heartless thieves.

"Whoever it was, they was watching my mother, because my mother had not planned on taking the dog out," said Maria C. Lugo, the victim's daughter.

Lugo's tearful daughter was thankful her mother was not hurt, but this crime hit home.

The family has lived in the same apartment since 1961, and know nearly everyone in the building.

"How can you be so low? My mother doesn't bother anybody, Maria C. Lugo said. "It could have been their mother their grandmother their sister. Why would you do something like that?"

The elder Lugo was not injured in the attack, police said. The search for the suspects continued late Friday night.
