At Least 1 Person Found Dead In Union County Home

SPRINGFIELD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- At least one person was found dead at a home in Union County, New Jersey, on Monday morning.

CBS2's Tony Aiello reported three people lived in the home at No. 74 Meckes St. in the Springfield neighborhood known as "The Square" where the body was found.

Neighbors said a well-liked woman is living with her son and her elderly dad at the residence. The Union County prosecutor isn't saying much, other than at least one of the residents in the house is dead, and that it is a homicide investigation.

"I'm stunned to see this sort of thing happening down here," 57-year resident Lawrence Burns said.

Springfield cops, aided by the Union County Prosecutor's Homicide Squad, reported at least one dead in a home shared by three generations of the same family. However, several neighbors said they saw two body bags removed from the home. The prosecutor's office refused to comment.

Property records show the home is owned by retired funeral director Thomas Brown. His daughter, Roth Brown, and her son also shared the home.

"She graduated from Howard University. She came back home and she had her son and was trying to raise her son," neighbor Charles Hackley said. "And like I say, right now, it's still not sinking in, so to me it's like I'm watching it, but it's surreal."

Some neighbors said police were asking if they noticed any unusual activity on Saturday night. It's not clear who called police to visit the home on Monday.

"It came as a shock. I mean, I was home washing dishes, looked up and out of nowhere there's cops all up and down my street," neighbor Jada Bunch said. "It was so sudden."

Police towed at least one vehicle from the crime scene and also spent time examining a house on the corner about 200 feet from where Brown house is.
