Police: 2 Wanted For Stealing $4,000 Necklace From Bronx Store

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are looking for a couple who stole a pricey necklace from a jewelry store in the Bronx earlier this month.

It happened on June 9 at a Kay Jewelers in Baychester, CBS2's Scott Rapoport reported.

Police said the duo posed as customers and asked to see a 10-carat, $4,000 necklace. The man tried the necklace on, took it off and handed it to his female accomplice. She dropped that necklace down her shirt and handed the man a different necklace, police said.

The man was hoping to pass the necklace off as the original, but the store wasn't fooled the piece of jewelry had no price tag.

The clerk and security confronted the two, but couldn't find the necklace. The two then walked out of the store and got away.

Employees and management from the store declined CBS2's request for an interview. In a statement, Kay officials said they are working with authorities to investigate.

The first suspect is described as a Hispanic man, 20 to 30 years old, and about 6 feet tall. His alleged accomplice is described as a Hispanic female, 20 to 30 years old, about 5 feet 5 inches tall with blonde hair.
