Rangers Sign Grabner, Gerbe, Clendening In Free Agency

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Rangers didn't spend big on the first day of NHL free agency, but they did add three new faces.

Among the signings is forward Michael Grabner, who spent five seasons with the Islanders before playing last year with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Grabner, 28, played in 80 games last season and had nine goals and nine assists. Over his seven-year career, the native of Austria has registered 90 goals and 54 assists and is tied for fourth in short-handed goals since 2010-11 with 12.

His two-year deal with the Rangers is reportedly worth $3.2 million.

The Blueshirts also landed forward Nathan Gerbe and defenseman Adam Clendening.

Gerbe, 28, spent the past three seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes. He had three goals and four assists in 47 games last season. He previously played for Buffalo.

His contract is for one year, $600,000.

Clendening, 23, has played for four teams in two seasons -- Chicago and Vancouver in 2014-15 and Pittsburgh and Edmonton last season.

He played in 29 games in 2015-16, registering one goal, six assists and a plus-minus of 6.

Clendening's one-year deal will pay him $600,000 if he's with the Rangers and $300,000 if he is sent to AHL Hartford.
