Report: Knicks To Sign Spanish Center Willy Hernangomez

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Knicks are reportedly adding 22-year-old Spanish center Willy Hernangomez to their roster.

The Knicks and Hernangomez agreed to terms on at least a three-year contract, the New York Daily News reported Tuesday, citing sources.

New York drafted Hernangomez with the 35th overall pick in 2015. He played last season in Spain.

"He's ready to come over here," new Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek told the Daily News. "He's a big body, he's skilled, a low post guy who will fit good in this system."

The 6-foot-10 center is expected to back up newly signed Joakim Noah.

Hernangomez was former teammates in Spain with Knicks power forward Kristaps Porzingis.

Leading up to last year's draft, CBSSports.com wrote of Hernangomez:

"He's your classic, low-post, bang underneath center at 6-11. He's physical, and nearly impossible to move from the block at 21 years old already. Once he gets into even better shape, he really has a shot to be a solid NBA player. The questions about him are regarding his athleticism, as he's not really an above-the-rim type of guy. But he does have a burgeoning face up game, and if he can continue to develop that in conjunction with his skills, he might be able to stick."

Newsday reported the Knicks have also reached an agreement with Mindaugas Kuzminskas, a 6-foot-9-inch forward from Lithuania, on a two-year deal.
