Police ID Mother Killed In Queens Hit-And-Run Crash

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are searching for the hit-and-run driver who slammed into another car in Queens Sunday night, leaving a mother dead and a 9-year-old girl in critical condition.

Zaalika Rasool, 41,  was killed when the red Toyota sedan she was in with her husband, daughter and another passenger, was struck by an alleged drunk driver in a black BMW sports utility vehicle on 115th Avenue and 130th Street in the Ozone Park section of Queens. Rasool was a wife and mother to three children.

Police say the force of the impact ejected Rasool and her 9-year-old daughter, Sarah, from the car and into the street, CBS2's Scott Rappoport reported.

Rasool was pronounced dead at the scene.

"When I heard my aunt passed away I didn't know how to feel. I was in denial," nephew Tariq Lall Mohamed said. "All I could start thinking about was my cousins - they don't have a mother."

1010 WINS' Roger Stern reported that witnesses saw the BMW speed through a stop sign at more than 50 miles an hour before the crash.

The car hit three other parked vehicles before the driver got out and fled the scene on foot.

"And he still out there. And I hope they get him soon," Mohamed said.

Two other passengers in Rasool's car and a passenger in the suspect's vehicle were taken to the hospital with what's been described as non-life-threatening injuries.

The victim's daughter is in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
