Police Hunt For 2 Suspects In Long Island Home Invasion

GARDEN CITY PARK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A quiet Nassau County neighborhood was on edge Friday as police searched for two men wanted in a home invasion and robbery. A 61-year-old woman was inside at the time.

As CBS2's Andrea Grymes reported, it started out with the victim innocently walking her dog and ended, police say, just feet away with a threat on her life inside her own home.

Investigators say the woman was walking near her house on Hillside Drive South, next to Hillside Avenue in Garden City Park, when the two suspects passed by and started talking to her about her pet.

"They were very nice to the lady, and they were playing with her dog, asking her about her dog," said neighbor Bobby Ramnarine. "They had their plans already, how to get in to rob her."

A robbery is exactly what investigators describe happened around 8 p.m. Thursday after she went home.

While she went to lock the side door, one of those men entered the home and grabbed her in a bear hug, police said. The other man then came in through the back door, and both of them pushed her to the floor, threatening to kill her if she turned and looked at them, according to police.

After a few minutes, when she heard nothing, she got up and called 911.

Next door neighbor Martha Molina said the victim ran up her driveway, saying: "Help me, help me! Somebody's in my home and robbing me."

"So my husband go with her to look and (see) what happened," Molina said.

The victim, who suffered some bruises, was too shaken up to talk on camera to CBS2.

Police say the suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

One suspect is black and one is Hispanic, police said. Both are in their early 20s and are around 5 feet 10 inches tall.
