Police: Man Lured 10-Year-Old Girl Into Car In Queens
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are looking for a man who they said lured a 10-year-old girl with special needs into his car in Queens after claiming he was her mother's cousin.
It happened just before 7 a.m. Wednesday on 102nd Street in Richmond Hill, CBS2's Alice Gainer reported.
Police said the man approached the girl near her home and started talking with her. When she told the man that she was on her way to summer school, police said he offered to drive her.
"Someone just stopped and said, 'Why are you here?' And then I said because I have to wait for the bus," the girl told 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria. "And then he says, 'Come in the car because I know where P.S. 60 is.'"
The girl then got into the man's car, police said. Her grandfather saw what happened, but police said he couldn't get to her in time.
The child was missing for nearly an hour before police said the man eventually let her out the car. She then walked to school, about three blocks from where she was dropped off. Police said she was unharmed.
Her mother later said she was absolutely frantic and worried.
"What I'm going do?" she said. "Who I'm gonna call?"
Sources told CBS2 the girl has special needs, but is highly functional.
Investigators describe the suspect as a black man between the ages of 19 and 21. He was in a grey vehicle, which was seen on surveillance video.
