Police: Man Killed, Woman Hurt After Gunman Opens Fire On Parked Car In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man is dead and a woman injured after police said a gunman opened fire on them as they were sitting in a double-parked vehicle in Brooklyn.

It happened just before 1 a.m. Tuesday on Halsey Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

Police said the two were sitting in a sport utility vehicle outside an apartment building when someone came up and started shooting.

The driver, 33-year-old Ernest Brown, was shot in the head and torso, police said. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The passenger, a 22-year-old woman who has not been identified, was shot in the torso, police said. She was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

The dead man's father-in-law Joe and brother-in-law James said Brown was a good man and a good father who was too young to die, 1010 WINS' John Montone reported.

"Too many guns out here," James said. "Coming here from down south and they're up here in New York and they're getting into young kids' hands."

"There's like no end," Joe said. "Brothers just killing each other over a beef that could have happened ten years ago and they can't get over it."

So far, no arrests have been made.

The investigation is ongoing.
