World Chess Championship Headed To South Street Seaport This Fall
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The World Chess Championship is coming to New York City.
The anticipated event will be held from November 11 - 30 at the South Street Seaport in Lower Manhattan, WCBS 880's Rich Lamb reported.

Magnus Carlsen, 25, of Norway, will be defending his title of World Chess Champion this year. Carlsen claimed the title of Grand Master when he was only 13.
"He's the Norwegian reigning champion. I guess he's kind of the first global chess mega star," spokesperson Murray Watson said.
Carlsen will face off against 26-year-old Sergey Karjakin, of Russia, who became a chess Grand Master at age 12. Karijakin is currently ranked 10th in the world.
"Sergey has proven to be an incredibly durable opponent as well. He's beat Magnus...in the past. So it should be a really intriguing contest," Watson said.
The opponents will face off in a 12-round match, with each game held in a sound-proof room at the South Street Seaport. The matches are expected to last from four to six hours.
The winners are competing for a prize fund totaling up to $1 million.
