Rat-Infested Deer Park Home Put On The Market

DEER PARK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island home infested with rats has been put on the market.

The owner, a woman in her upper 60s, is selling the two-bedroom house for $100,000. She put it up for sale last week, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported. The real estate listing for 69 Conklin Street reads, "Hoarders home! And rodents in the home. Investors only!"

Neighbors have spent thousands of dollars on traps to get rid of the rats which have been making their way into crawlspaces and backyards on the block. The rodents even built a nest in a car.

"I have lived here for 30 years, never seen anything like this. This is mind-boggling for this area," a neighbor said. "I hope somebody comes along, buys the house, bulldozes it, and puts up another house on the property."

A spokesperson for the Town of Babylon said the owner hired an exterminator and a town inspector has been checking the property daily to ensure the rat problem is taken care of.

The owner left the residence after the rats ate up her furniture and infested her home, Hall reported last week. She now lives with her sister.

The owner did not want to comment.
