Firefighter Accused Of Tampering With Evidence In Fatal White Plains Car Crash
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork)-- A White Plains firefighter may be fired over charges that he threw away evidence and lied to police during an investigation into another firefighter's deadly wrong-way crash.
Brian Noonan is accused of pocketing a prescription pill bottle that he found in firefighter Erik Refvik's sport-utility vehicle just minutes after Refvik drunkenly crashed into a car in November 2014, WCBS 880's Stephanie Colombini reported.
The driver of the car, Edgar Lopez, was critically injured and his ex-wife Reyda Lamadrid was killed.
Refvik ended up pleading guilty to aggravated homicide and is now serving a sentence of 5 to 15 years. Noonan has apparently been suspended with pay since the disciplinary charges were filed last year.
The White Plains public safety commissioner will ultimately decide what, if any, penalty is receives.
