AMITYVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork)– A plan to build affordable housing on a Long Island waterfront has angered some residents.
Lee Place in Amityville Harbor is near a vacant lot that has a spectacular waterfront view, WCBS 880’s Sophia Hall reported.
The Affordable Housing Organization on Long Island wants to build on the land which they purchased as part of the New York state’s rising program.
But some residents are not happy and 80 have already signed a petition against the project.
“A neighborhood that has had its property values cut in half post-Sandy are very concerned about another impact on the community. I mean, come on, let’s face it– your house is generally your largest investment and to take a shot in the face with Sandy, and to take another shot in the face with this is not tolerable,” one man said.
The resident said there was a house on the property that was destroyed after Sandy and now there is a vacant parcel. An email to the developer seeking comment was not returned.
