Reports: Giants Bringing Back Offensive Tackle Will Beatty

EAST RUTHEFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Coach Ben McAdoo has said he's not overly concerned about the Giants' offensive line, yet in a surprise move, Big Blue has reached a deal to bring tackle Will Beatty back into the fold, according to multiple reports.

According to ESPN, the Giants will sign Beatty to a one-year contract that guarantees him $1.1 mllion and includes up to $750,000 more in incentives.

The Giants released Beatty in February. A second-round draft pick in 2009, Beatty was the Giants' starting left tackle from 2011-14 but missed all of last season with a torn pectoral muscle suffered while lifting weights in the offseason.

The Giants have said they are committed to 2015 first-round pick Ereck Flowers at left tackle. Beatty, 31, will either provide depth or challenge Marshall Newhouse for the starting right tackle job.

New York's offensive line has looked shaky during the preseason.

Quarterbacks Eli Manning and backup Ryan Nassib have been under intense pressure and have been sacked eight times. The Giants are ranked last in the preseason in average total yards, passing, first downs and third-down efficiency. They're next to last in average points.

McAdoo on Monday insisted the line can't be judged when it plays without a regular-season game plan.

The Giants coach, however, admitted there is room for improvement.

"The pocket integrity needs to improve in the pass game, and I think it has gotten better," he said. "We took a step back on a few plays last week, but overall the pocket integrity has been better the last two games. Run blocking is something that we need to improve on. It's not just the offensive line; it's the tight ends, it's everybody."
