Dog Abandoned In Puerto Rico Seeks New Start In New York

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A loyal dog abandoned in Puerto Rico is looking for a new home.

Lilly, a 15 pound miniature pinscher mix, was left alone in the woods by her owner with nothing but an old T-shirt, 1010 WINS' Roger Stern reported.

"She didn't go for help or anything," Julie Sinaw with Animal Lighthouse Rescue told Stern. "She just stayed there on the T-shirt, wouldn't move, waiting for her owner to come back."

The rescue organization has been helping Lilly on her road to recovery for the past two months.

"We fattened her up, we tried to make her trust people again," Sinaw said. "She's been the sweetest girl since day one."

The group found Lilly a new home and arranged for her to fly New York, but those travel plans fell through when United Airlines reduced the number of dogs it allows on a flight.

Animal Lighthouse Rescue shared Lilly's story on its Facebook page and the airline agreed to put her on a flight Thursday night.

"People just fell in love with her," Sinaw said.

When Lilly landed in New York, it was too late for the family who planned to adopt her. So she is once again in search of a new owner.
