Second Annual Dog Film Festival Benefits NYC Shelter Animals

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, and New York is celebrating with a film festival honoring man's (and woman's) best friend.

The 2nd Annual Dog Film Festival Returns to the Big Apple on Saturday, October 15 to benefit the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals. It'll be held at Symphony Space on Manhattan's Upper West Side, presented by the Petco Foundation.

The festival is the brainchild of Tracie Hotchner, author of "The Dog Bible", and host of the radio shows "Dog Talk" on NPR and "Cat Chat" on Sirius XM Satellite as well as the online "Radio Pet Lady Network" podcasts.

The Dog Film Festival features four separate programs of entirely different canine-themed films. Each screening includes documentary, animated and live-action shorts that illuminate the human-canine bond, submitted by dog-loving filmmakers from around the world. The films shown at the festival are appropriate for all members of the family and each program will run approximately 2 hours long.

The programs are as follows:

11 AM - DOGS BRITISH STYLE: The English View of Dogs - Watch the trailer for SNIFF

2 PM - DOGS IN THE OUTDOORS: Adventure & Sport - Watch the trailer for Mystery of the Arctic Cairn

5 PM- LOVE MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND: Who Rescued Whom?

8 PM - THE CHAMPIONS – An Uplifting Tale of Redemption - Watch the trailer for The Champions

Tickets for the Dog Film Festival are $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for children per screening program with 50% of the ticket sales benefiting the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals, a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity that works with more than 150 partner rescue groups and shelters to offer important programs and services that save the lives of NYC's homeless animals, with the goal of transforming New York City into a no-kill community.

Tickets can be purchased either online though Symphony Space at SymphonySpace.org or at the box office.  You can also purchase a $40 all-day "Dog Tag" which is good for the entire festival, at DogFilmFestival.com.
