2 Planes Clip Wings At Newark Liberty International Airport

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Two airplanes clipped wings on a taxiway at Newark Liberty International Airport on Tuesday evening.

Officials said Lufthansa Airbus A340 and United 88 Boeing B777 clipped right wing tips shortly before 5:30 p.m.

The United plane landed and was proceeding to a gate, as the Lufthansa plane was being re-positioned by a tow vehicle.

There were no injuries, but both planes were damaged, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

The Lufthansa plane was not in service at the time. The United Air flight was arriving from Beijing, the Port Authority said.

The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate.
