New York City Dealing With Record-Breaking Heat In October

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Coats have been cast aside as the Tri-State area is treated to another day of summerlike warmth as it was another record-breaking day in Manhattan.

A record high temperature of 81 degrees was already set at LaGuardia Airport by early afternoon Wednesday. Newark tied its record of 82 degrees.

The record for Central Park is 83 for Oct. 19, and CBS2's John Elliott said it's going to be a hard record to tie or break.

CHECK FORECAST

CBS2's Vanessa Murdock reports sunbathers in bikinis were soaking up the rays on the banks of the Hudson River on this warm day.

"This is really exciting," said Leah Unger of Flatbush, Brooklyn. "Just feels like another summer day."

Highs today in the mid-80s mimicked those of early summer.

"Oddly warm, but I like it," said Wayne Reuben of the Bronx. "I like this, I hope it stays like this until Halloween."

"This is amazing having the warm weather in middle of October is just a special treat," Julie Vincent of the West Village said.

"This is like July," said Barbara Evans of Glastonbury, Connecticut. "The only thing missing is a pool."

However, some say Mother Nature messed up.

"I wish it was a little cooler," said Manuela Aronofsky of Midwood, Brooklyn.

"Horrible -- it's too warm to be October," said Maria Redondel.

Temperatures will not make it into the 80s Thursday and by the weekend, the mornings will be starting off in the 20s, 30s and 40s, CBS2's Vanessa Murdock reported.
