Jackknifed Truck Creates Traffic Headache On Route 1 In New Jersey

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A truck carrying a boat has jackknifed on a New Jersey highway, leading to a fuel spill and big delays as the boat sits on the trailer parked on the roadway.

South Brunswick police Capt. Jim Ryan said the truck tried to slow down while approaching traffic on Route 1 around 7:45 a.m. Thursday, but the weight of the boat forced it to jackknife.

The tractor sideswiped a car in the left lane of the two-lane highway, but no one was injured.

The highway has been closed since. Ryan says one lane should re-open at 9:30 a.m. and cleanup crews were expected to be on scene until noon.

The "Sea Hunter" boat is listed as being from Osterville, Massachusetts. The trailer has an "oversize load" sign on it.
