PBA President: De Blasio's New Pick For CCRB Is Part Of 'Anti-Police Pattern'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio on Tuesday announced a new pick to fill a spot on the Civilian Complaint Review Board.

As WCBS 880's Rich Lamb reported, de Blasio picked attorney John Siegal to fill the spot on the board, which probes police misconduct.

Patrolman's Benevolent Association President Pat Lynch points out that Siegal worked for de Blasio when the current mayor was public advocate, and also donated to his mayoral campaign.

Lynch also pointed out that Siegal argued in federal court that an order against the stop and frisk policy not be delayed.

"He's putting in place folks that are advocates or activists," Lynch said. "That's not what the spot calls for. It calls for someone to come in, listen to the case fairly and then make a determination."

Lynch called the appointment of Siegal part of an anti-police pattern. But de Blasio called Siegal a great addition who will address the needs of every New Yorker.
