NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Ed Mullins, president of the Police Sergeants Union, left a meeting at police headquarters in protest on Tuesday.

As 1010 WINS’ Carol D’Auria reported, all of the police unions and their executive board members were on hand for the meeting at police headquarters.

Commissioner James O’Neill later explained what happened at a news conference.

“I was talking about some of the topics that we were going to discuss, I also discussed, uh, reiterated my position on the Danner shooting,” he said.

That was the fatal shooting of Deborah Danner — a schizophrenic woman — by Sgt. Hugh Barry. O’Neill reiterated that he thought the police failed that day.

A union spokesman told The Daily News that ‘Mullins didn’t have time for this nonsense.’

O’Neill said it was a productive meeting.
