New York City Officials: Voter Intimidation Will Not Be Tolerated

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD will be keeping a close eye on polling places to prevent any threat of voter intimidation.

As WCBS 880's Rich Lamb reported, Donald Trump had called on his supporters to keep an eye on polling sites. Police officers will also be doing so, NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill said this past week.

"We have police officers assigned to every polling site in the city," O'Neill said.

At least one uniformed officer will be seen at every polling place, police said.

"Any time you enter a polling site there will be at least one if not more police officers at that site, we've done this every year," Chief of Patrol Terence Monahan said.

The department said a couple thousand officers in total have been assigned to the city's 1,205 polling places.

"We won't tolerate any voter intimidation, so if we – obviously, our officers are prepared if there is any systematic effort to disrupt it," Mayor Bill de Blasio said late last week.

Election Day is coming up on Tuesday.
