Participants Stay Frozen Still For Viral 'Mannequin Challenge' On Social Media

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- There is a new viral video craze that requires a little creativity.

As CBS2's Emily Smith reported, even the New York Giants are game for what is called a social media freeze-frame, or the Mannequin Challenge.

The way it works is simple - stand as still as you can and look like a mannequin.

Some Harrison High School students in New Jersey needed no schooling – they took the challenge in swim class.

One student said it was even bigger than the ice bucket challenge.

On Sunday night, the Giants took the mannequin challenge after a win against the Philadelphia Eagles.

College football has also jumped on the mannequin challenge, as have the ladies of Destiny's Child.

At some point, participants will break their stillness. But that is not part of what goes viral on social media. So strike a dramatic pose, post it online under the hashtag #MannequinChallenge, and you will be part of the latest viral internet sensation.

The first known Mannequin Challenge is believed to have started in a high school classroom in Jacksonville, Florida in late October.
