Conjoined Twins Recovering Well After Head Separation Surgery, Doctors Say
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Twin boys who underwent head separation surgery earlier this year are well on the way to full recovery, according to doctors at Montefiore Medical Center.
The 13-month-old boys, Jadon and Anias McDonald, known as Craniopagus twins, shared brain tissue.
Mom Nicole McDonald posted new photos of the twins, saying both boys had skin grafts this week and that they've had their breathing tubes removed.
The twins, once joined at the head, were separated during a 27-hour surgery last month.
This was the 59th such separation surgery performed in the world since 1952. Twins conjoined at the head rarely survive past the age of two if they're not separated.
