LI Trump Supporter Loses 100 Facebook Friends, Including Best Man

ROCKY POINT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- One Donald Trump supporter on Long Island  says he's received so much negative response on social media that he had to call a press conference to try to get his friends back.

After Gary Pollakusky, of Rocky Point, changed his Facebook profile photo to one of his family in front of a "Trump-Pence" sign at the Republican Election Night Victory Party, he said  the unthinkable happened.

"Folks that we were friends with de-friended us, including my best man," Pollakusky told WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs.

Pollakusky says more than 100 people unfriended him, with some making mean comments along the way.

"It's time to move forward," Pollakusky said.

Pollakusky, who also serves as a Long Island Trump Campaign/RNC coordinator, used the incident to draw attention to the issue of cyber bullying on social media at a press conference in Coram on Thursday afternoon.

Pollakusky says he just wants his friends back.

"The jury is out with my friend, I'm not sure if he'll reconnect with me or my wife at this point," Pollakusky said. "But the hope is there."

Thursday also marks National Unfriend Day. CBS Philly reports the annual event encourages social media users to delete their unwanted contacts.
