HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — A surprise visit ended with a deadly shooting in New Jersey.

It happened inside a woman’s Hamilton Township home.

Police say she shot a man she believed was a home intruder, but it turned out to be a friend who had called and said he was coming over. The man arrived much sooner than expected.

“He had told her he was on the George Washington Bridge, actually she was on the phone with him, and he was in the house,” an official said.

While on the phone, police said the man pushed open the woman’s bedroom door and walked in.

That’s when she shot him.

So far, no charges have been filed.
