LISTEN: Mike Francesa Chats With Amani Toomer, Landon Collins

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- The Giants' all-time leading wide receiver stopped by the WFAN studios Friday afternoon and talked about how his former team is doing, including those who play his old position.

In an interview with Mike Francesa, Amani Toomer praised Odell Beckham Jr. and rookie Sterling Shepard, but added that it's important for Beckham to make sure his emotions do not hurt the team.

"I think it's part of his game, and you live with it," Toomer said. "But when you're not on the field because of your penalites -- when he got suspended last year -- or when you give your team 15-yard penalties that kill drives on already a struggling offense ... it's a problem. I love his energy. I think this team needs it. They need that kind of player that can get everybody charged up."

Toomer also was critical of Beckham's comments earlier this year about how he wasn't having fun playing the game.

"From former players who would give anything to have one more time to go out with a group of guys and play football ... for a guy who's in the middle of his career to say he's not having fun anymore, it doesn't resonate well with guys like me," Toomer said.

Toomer, meanwhile, said he's been very impressed by Shepard.

"He's a very smooth receiver, very capable," he said. "I mean, he's a lot better than I was when I first got in the league. I didn't really know how to run routes. I didn't know really what I was doing. And for him to come along so quickly, it's impressive. I'm impressed with what he's done, the big touchdowns that he's come up with. I can't really say anything bad about him."

Francesa and Toomer then teamed up to interview Giants safety Landon Collins, who called in.

One of the topics they discussed was Collins' running ability when he has the ball in his hands. Francesa asked him if he had played running back when he was younger.

"I was a running back since I was the age of 5," said Collins, who has four interceptions in his last three games.

He joked that he wouldn't mind playing a little running back in the NFL at some point.

"At least a few times if I could one day," he said.
