Trump's Bedminster Golf Course To Play Host To Transition Team Talks

BEDMINSTER, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- President-elect Donald Trump is coming to New Jersey for meetings as he begins to assemble his White House team.

Trump is holding the meetings at his private, 600-acre golf club in Bedminster where he is planning to meet with retired Marine Gen. James Mattis, and 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

Romney lambasted Trump as a "con man'' in a stinging speech in March. Trump responded by repeatedly referring to Romney as a "loser.'' They began mending fences after Trump's victory when Romney called with congratulations.

It's unclear whether Republican Gov. Chris Christie will attend after he was recently demoted from transition chairman to vice chairman. The club is about 20 minutes from his home.

Police have blocked parking around the club and signs say "No Standing, Stopping or Parking.''

Some residents hope this doesn't lead to any additional traffic where routes 78, 287, 202 and 206 converge, WCBS 880's Sean Adams reported.

The meetings were already the talk of the town Friday.

"I would just want him to choose the best people possible. It's a difficult time for our country. We have a lot of challenges. I believe that whichever party is in power, Democrat or Republican, we should pray for them, we should support them, we should give them a chance to do a good job," said attorney Chris Eriksson, who is excited to have the spotlight on New Jersey.

"Nobody really knows what he is all about, what he is going to do. I mean, hopefully, you know, it will be for the best for the country," said resident Ira Greenhill.
