Attorney General Announces $25 Million Settlement In Trump University Lawsuit

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A $25 million settlement has been reached in three lawsuits against Trump University.

One of the lawsuits was a civil suit filed by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman in 2013, along with two class-action lawsuits filed in California.

Under the terms of the settlement, more than 6,000 victims will each receive restitution and Donald Trump will pay up to $1 million in penalties to the state of New York for violating state education laws, Schneiderman's office said.

"The victims of Trump University have waited years for today's result and I am pleased that their patience--and persistence--will be rewarded by this $25 million settlement," the attorney general's office said in a statement.

Schneiderman's office said Trump fought the lawsuit every step of the way, "filing baseless charges and fruitless appeals and refusing to settle for even modest amounts of compensation for the victims of his phony university. Today, that all changes."

With the deal, the president-elect does not admit any wrongdoing.
