Family Seeks Closure, Cops Seek Suspect In Hit-And-Run Death Of West Milford Woman

WEST MILFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- New clues have emerged as police search for a hit-and-run driver in New Jersey.

Authorities were sorting through surveillance video of vehicles at the scene of a deadly crash that claimed the life of a woman out walking her dogs.

As TV 10/55's Meg Baker reported, Thanksgiving was very different for the Chalkley family -- one significant person was missing. Kelly Chalkley -- a wife, mother, grandmother, and sister -- was killed in a hit-and-run accident on November 7, just up the block from her home in the Hewitt section of West Milford.

"Anything I needed, anything any of us needed, she would be right there for us," daughter Gina Konz said.

Flowers and a pumpkin that said 'I miss you mom' laid as a memorial.

The family has been looking for some kind of closure, posting a $20,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest.

"It doesn't matter who it is, I just need the person to come tell police, I need to know who did it," sister Kim Powell said.

It was a routine day for Chalkley -- multiple times a day she would walk up her street and into the park with her family dog.

That evening she walked Misty just before dinner, her husband noticed the dog outside alone.

"He saw Misty standing outside the back door. Door was closed, so Kelly wouldn't have left her outside," Powell said.

That's when he ran to the parking lot and found his wife unresponsive.

Police said new surveillance video shows three cars in the lot around 7:30 p.m. A pickup truck, and two smaller vehicles.

"Maybe they were texting, any answers, nothing is going to change it, nothing is going to bring my sister back. The pain is always going to be there," Powell said.

Police said it may be someone local who was familiar with the park. They have asked an outside agency to enhance the video so they can get a better look at the vehicles in the parking lot.
