Two Seriously Injured In Suffolk County Crash

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Suffolk County Police Department responded to a serious crash on the Long Island Expressway near Exit 53 in Brentwood around 5:27 a.m.

Two men suffered serious injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment , according to police.

The roadway was closed for several hours while authorities conducted their investigation.

Luis Espinali and Jose Paulino were in a 2004 Nissan traveling eastbound in the center lane of the LIE when they were struck by a 2003 Linclon driven by Fausto Narvaez. The Nissan lost control and flipped over before landing upside down on the guardrail on the right side of the expressway, according to police.

Espinali, 44, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in serious condition. Paulino, 42, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital by a Suffolk County Police helicopter.

Navarez, 28, was uninjured according to police.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is ongoing.

All lanes have since reopened.
