Woman, 85, Critically Injured When Fire Rips Through Bronx Building
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An extra-alarm ripped through a building in the Foxhurst section of the Bronx Sunday evening, and an 85-year-old woman was left in critical condition.
WCBS 880 reported the fire broke out on the fifth floor of a multi-story building at 1038 Southern Blvd. in the Bronx. The fire was later raised to three alarms.
A photo from the scene showed flames consuming the fifth floor through a window and shooting through the roof. Lights were still on elsewhere in the building.
The woman was critically injured in the fire, the FDNY told WCBS 880. The person was taken to Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center with life-threatening injuries.
The FDNY told 1010 WINS a firefighter also suffered minor injuries.
The American Red Cross Greater New York was at the scene late Sunday and had registered nine families. Everyone displaced by the fire was to receive temporary housing and other emergency relief, the Red Cross said.
