Splish, Splash, Trespass: BMX Bikers Hop Fence At LI Water Park, Record Video Of Slide Stunts

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Authorities are looking for a band of BMX bikers who broke into a Long Island water park and went for a spin on the slides.

A 15-minute video posted to YouTube shows the group of five friends jumping the barbed wire fences at Splish Splash in Riverhead on Thanksgiving Day and performing stunts with their BMX bikes on the slides.

"We are heading out to eastern Long Island today to get into some crazy adventures," BMX rider Billy Perry, 21, says to the camera. "It's going to be insane, if we don't get arrested. Hopefully we don't get arrested."

The video was published on Nov. 27 and has been viewed nearly 4 million times at the writing of this post.

"That was the most savage session we've had in a long time. That was amazing. We had a good two hours in there our session got cut short due to a worker," Perry says at the end of the video.

The disheartened manager said he just spend hundreds of thousands of dollars resurfacing the rides.

"We're obviously very disappointed and we work very hard to make sure that these rides are safe for our guests each year," Bengston said. "And now it'll have to be all gone through and reinspected after we had just done that for the winter."

"We hire security in the off-season to make sure that trespassers don't come here," General Manager Mike Bengtson added. 

He said the gel-coated slides are not safe for something like this, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.

"They could have been severely injured. We know of incidents around the country over the years, whether it's been theme parks, amusement parks, or abandoned parks that have been broken into and someone does get severely injured," Bengston said.

Bengston told 1010 WINS that the park's surveillance video has been turned over to Riverhead Police.

"We're coordinating with them and their efforts," Bengston said. "Obviously they were trespassing so we will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law." 

Police shouldn't have trouble finding Perry since he has a following.

"People like Billy Perry are inspiring kids to continue riding, and get off their computers and get outside on their bikes," Babylon Bicycle Shop employee Doug Williamson said.

BMX, which stands for bicycle motocross, has become so popular it's now an Olympic sport, but enthusiasts on Long Island complain there aren't many places they can legally ride, CBS2's Carolyn Gusoff reported.

"If there was a park where kids could go a legally ride, it would be a very popular park around here that's for sure," Williamson said.

Splish Splash has since ramped up its security to guard against copy cats.

No arrests have been made.
