Exclusive Video: Man Rips ATM From Queens Gas Station, Loads It Into Vehicle

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A brazen ATM heist was caught on surveillance camera in Queens.

Exclusive surveillance video obtained by CBS2 shows a suspect in a dark car putting a thick rope around an ATM outside a BP gas station and Dunkin' Donuts shop on the Van Wyk Expressway at Atlantic Avenue around 7 a.m. Friday.

Moments later, the suspect gets back into the car and steps on the gas, ripping the ATM, which was bolted to the ground, completely from the pavement, CBS2's Scott Rapoport reported.

The suspect then gets out of the car and lifts the machine into his vehicle before speeding away.

Monzur Morshed, who works at the Dunkin' Donuts, said he saw the whole thing.

"Somebody just took the whole ATM machine on his car," Morshed said. "I say 'Hey, hey, what are you doing?' And he just drive away."

"It's unbelievable. People will do anything for money nowadays," said customer Michael Biefenbach of Long Island.

Police say the suspect was wearing a dark hoodie, dark pants and driving what they described as a black Jeep.

Police said the suspect headed southbound on the Van Wyck. He remains on the loose.
