Victor Cruz On WFAN: Competitive Fire Behind Complaining About Lack Of Targets

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Victor Cruz tried to play down his frustration Tuesday about not being targeted in the Giants' loss to the Steelers two days earlier.

On Sunday, the Giants wide receiver told reporters: "I'm going to talk to somebody. Somebody's got to give me an answer as to why."

But in his weekly appearance on Mike Francesa's WFAN show, Cruz insisted he is on the same page with coach Ben McAdoo and quarterback Eli Manning.

He chalked up his postgame comments to the heat of the moment following a loss, his competitiveness and his desire to help his team.

"Obviously, coming after a game that we lost and you don't get any targets, you're naturally going to be frustrated and a little angry," Cruz said. "So a lot of it was reactive in terms of the questions that I was getting. But ... none of it was malicious toward a teammate or a coach or anyone like that. It was just venting my frustrations on not being targeted, not being able to help my team win and contribute in a major way."

Cruz said he saw some things differently after reviewing the game film.

"Obviously, there were some areas where I could have gotten the ball," he said. "Sometimes Eli was flushed out to the other side. He wasn't in the cleanest of pockets throughout the game anyway. That obviously played a part as well. And then obviously there were some areas where I understood why I couldn't get the ball.

"Obviously, it's twofold. After watching the film, you understand both sides of it, and you move on from there."

Cruz said he did speak with McAdoo about wanting to be on the field more -- he only played about half the offensive snaps Sunday.

"I just basically voiced to Coach Mac that I wanted to be in more," he said. "I wanted to be in a position to have more opportunities to play. And he understood that, and he understood where I was coming from. He said we're going to try to do some things a little differently this week."

The 8-4 Giants will host the 11-1 Cowboys on Sunday night.
