NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police Commissioner James O’Neill made his case Wednesday that New York City needs to be reimbursed for securing President-elect Donald Trump.
As WCBS 880’s Rich Lamb reported, O’Neill is underlining that the city needs to be paid back for the millions the NYPD is spending for its part on operations to secure Trump Tower and the president-elect.READ MORE: Gen. The commissioner noted at present, officers are on loan for the tower watch.
“We’re taking resources from around the city, from precincts around the city, so at some point we have to make sure that we have the ability to keep those resources in place,” he said.
As 1010 WINS’ Glenn Schuck reported, Wednesday marked another stress on the NYPD and its resources protecting Trump Tower and Trump himself, as well as in this case the leaders of tech giants from around the country.READ MORE: Gen. O’Neill said police will go on pulling from other precincts for now, but at some point, the feds will have to ante up.
“I’m an optimist by nature, so I think we’re going to be fully reimbursed for that,” O’Neill said. “I always have contingency plans.”
As if the city did not have enough to worry about, a military cargo plane was seen circling Manhattan on Tuesday. The C-130 flew low over the city around 4:30 p.m., causing confusion.
Apparently, a notification to various city agencies either did not happen or was miscommunicated.
“The public should know about that; I mean, what’s transpired in New York City over the last 15 years,” O’Neill said.MORE NEWS: Some Play Blame Game As Gas Prices Reach Highest Level In Years, But There's No Dispute It's Impacting Bottom Line For Many Families
