Boy, 16, Critically Injured In Shooting Near Hofstra Campus

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A 16-year-old boy was critically injured in a shooting Tuesday night just off the Hofstra University campus.

It happened just after 11:30 p.m. on Fenimore Avenue in Uniondale. Police said the teen was standing on the street when he was shot in the head.

Police are now looking for two males who they said rode off on bicycles. The boy was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Nassau County Police Lt. Richard LeBrun said the incident has nothing to do with Hofstra University, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.

"This has nothing to do with Hofstra University, although it is in close proximity," LeBrun said. "This individual is not a student there, nor were the suspects students at Hofstra."

LeBrun said the school has increased its security to ensure the suspects were not on campus.

Authorities believe the incident may be gang related.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.  All callers will remain anonymous.
