Victim In Fatal Brooklyn Hit-And-Run ID'd As New York DJ

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police have identified the victim in Monday morning's fatal hit and run in Brooklyn as 39-year-old Jean Guerrero.

Guerrero was a DJ with New York Latin music radio station Mega 97.9.

The station announced his passing in a post to their Instagram page Monday evening.

Translated, the post refers to Guerrero as an "inescapable and hardworking companion, as well as a friend in whom he can always be trusted."

Known as DJ Jinx Paul, he started DJ'ing at the age of 9 and has worked in over 100 clubs and lounges throughout New York City according to the station's website.

Police say Guerrero was struck by a black Nissan Maxima going at a high rate of speed. The vehicle then fled the scene, according to investigators.

The NYPD has released surveillance video of a vehicle they say is wanted in connection to the fatal hit-and-run.

It happened just after 4 a.m. at the intersection of Sheffield and Jamaica avenues in East New York.

Police told CBS2 that Guerrero was trying to cross the street and peaked out in front of a flatbed truck that was double parked on Jamaica Avenue at the time of the crash, Rapoport reported. He was struck in the center lane.

Guerrero was found with severe body trauma. He was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Residents said the nearby intersection of Jamaica and Pennsylvania avenues can be dangerous.

"I'm afraid to cross. I cross all the way in the corner cause you never know when you're going to see a car coming by," said resident Natalie Tapia.

"It's very crowded. It's very congested. There's always accidents," said resident Imelda Hernandez.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
