What Not To Buy As Summer Comes To A Close
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The fun and sun of summer is coming to a close, but don't be sad -- shop!
August is prime-time for those end-of-summer sales.
You can also find great deals on back to school supplies.
But there are some things you'll want to avoid buying this month.
CBS2's Alex Denis spoke with smart shopping expert Trae Bodge on what to look out for, and what to avoid. Below is a full list of what to keep an eye on.
Deals across all Back to School categories can be found in August. Pencil sharpeners, pens and washable markers were discounted at Walmart, The Children's Place held a clearance sale with merchandise discounted up to 80% off, Target had a 10% off sitewide sale and Lenovo and Microsoft had sales on laptops. Food items, like KIND bars were on sale at Amazon for $10 with a $10 credit.

Travel
Travel was another strong category last August, especially on one-way flights. Frontier airlines were $20, Southwest Airlines were $49, Jetblue were $29 and Virgin America were $39. Jetblue also had flash fares from $15.

End of Summer Clearance
Look for end of season clearance on summer apparel, grills, lawnmowers, etc., but wait until closer to the end of the month for those deals.
What Not to Buy
Fall Clothing – When you are shopping for your kids' Back to School clothes, best to focus on warmer weather clothes and wait for September or even October for fall clothes. This is approach also allows your kids to check out the trends at school before committing to a full-year wardrobe.
Select Apple Products – Apple often launches a new device in September (this year, it's the iPhone 8), so you can often find deals on the older iteration once the new one is on the shelves.
