Bette Midler 'Fine' After Fall During 'Hello, Dolly!' Performance On Broadway

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Bette Midler took a fall onstage during a performance of "Hello, Dolly!" on Broadway Thursday night, but the show did go on and so did she.

As CBS2's Valerie Castro reported, the performance started at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Shubert Theatre, 225 W. 44th St. Sources told CBS2 it was somewhere during the end of Act One that something malfunctioned with the set.

That was when the audience said Midler took a tumble right before their eyes.

"It seemed as though the… one of the stage settings came down, but we don't know, but they picked her up and scooped her up right away, and they got back in there and kicked up her heels and away she went," said audience member Daryl Phillips.

"It was the end of the act and she went to step off a step, but there was a malfunction in the scenery," said audience member Rachel Giaccobe.

After about 10 minutes, the audience said Midler was back onstage and finished Act One, and then after an intermission, she came back to finish the show.

Midler posted a tweet afterward saying she was "fine."

CBS2 is told Midler received at least four standing ovations Thursday night.

Midler, 71, appears as iconic matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi in the revival of the classic 1964 musical, which has been running since March. She will depart the musical on Jan. 14 of next year, after which time Bernadette Peters will take over the role.
