NJ Boy Scouts Leader Accused Of Exchanging Sexually Explicit Messages With Child

FREEHOLD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) – A Boy Scouts leader in New Jersey is accused of exchanging sexually explicit messages with a young boy.

The Monmouth County prosecutor's office said 25-year-old Joseph Palermo, of Hazlet, has been charged with engendering the welfare of a child.

He served as a volunteer assistant scoutmaster with Boy Scouts of America, according to authorities.

The prosecutor's office did not say how Palermo knew his alleged victim.
