New Goethals Bridge Westbound Span Now Open

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Drivers can now begin using the westbound lanes of the new Goethals Bridge.

The new bridge, connecting Staten Island and Elizabeth, New Jersey features twin spans with more lanes and shoulders.

The eastbound lanes opened last June.

Work on the $1.5 billion project began in 2013. The old bridge will be torn down.
