Debut Of 3D Scanner At JFK Airport

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A brand new 3D security scanner is going into service Tuesday at JFK Airport.

The machine uses CT technology like a hospital CAT scan. It gives TSA agents the ability to differentiate items inside a cluttered bag and also to rotate images in any direction.

JFK has one of just eight machines nationwide that's ready for use. It will be in the American Airlines terminal.
