High Wind Warning Issued For Most Of Tri-State Area

ALBANY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Authorities are warning New York residents to brace themselves for a night of dangerous winds.

Weather officials say a high wind warning remains in effect Sunday night through Monday with gusts of 45 mph or higher for much of the state. Wind gusts could reach 75 mph in western New York and parts of the North Country.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has directed multiple state agencies to deploy equipment throughout the state so crews can respond quickly to emergencies and he has activated 250 members of the National Guard to help with debris-removal efforts. In Western New York, thousands have already lost power due to damaging winds.

Empty tractor-trailers and empty tandem trucks have been banned for sections of the Thruway and some other interstate highways in western and central New York. The ban is also in effect for MTA-run bridges in New York City.
